The Video-DVD „Shanties & Maritime Art“ is an exciting and romantic journey through the great time of the sailing ships. Not only you will enjoy it, but it also makes an ideal gift for family and friends. Short Preview. The DVD covers the time of the wooden sailing ships of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries and ends when iron steamers were introduced. It is the time when shanties as work songs of sailors flourished. The three centuries of sailing history start with the Dutch East Indiamen, European sea battles, deals with themes like whaling and fishing, distress and accidents, corsairs and pirates and end up with the American civil war. The menus of the DVD and the subtitles of the images are in English, French, German and Spanish. The shanties and the subtitles of the lyrics are in English. The running time of the DVD with the Region Code 0 (worldwide) is about 45 minutes.
The DVD contains 16 titles of about 150 impressive oil paintings, watercolours, engravings and lithographs of various maritime museums. The images are accompanied by 16 famous shanties and songs of the sea performed by THE WINDJAMMERS (arr.
